Hi All,
I have been very passionate about Italian Cars for a long time and have a couple of Fiat 500's and a 600 to my stable. My interest with bikes started on old Vespa's. In my search for a GS160 to restore I came accross a 1966 Ducati Scrambler and thought that this would be a different highway to take.
The bike is being shipped from the US to Australia at the moment and hope to have it just before christmas.
Your site is fantastic and has a talented pool of knowledge. I am sure that when the bike arrives I will be searching through the many topics to assist.

Re: New to Ducati
What a nice Christmas present to get, even if you are both the giver and receiver.
The narrow case Scrambler is a good looking bike. The styling not only has held up well with the passage of decades, I personally think the styling looks exemplary even by today's standards and that's a true indicator of classic design.
Welcome to the forum.

Ftipodi, Welcome to this site...
Let me say first, I am glad that this scrambler found a good new home. I know of this exact motorcycle, because I put in some bids towards it a few months ago. I myself am restoring a 66' Scrambler also. I just did not have the $$ to purchase it, after spending so much on restoring mine, so far. In talking with the previous owner, and looking at a lot of pictures of it, I believe it is a very nice, and well cared for machine. I hope it arrives safely, once it does, I'm sure everyone on here would like to see more pictures of it. If I wasn't restoring my 66' back to "factory spec" I would probably install clip-ons, just as the owner of this one did, I actually like the look, especially on this model.

Re: New to Ducati
Thanks guys,
I am very excited and cant wait until it arrives. I shelled out a bit extra on the freight and crating to make sure that it arrives safely.
Many of the freight companies are out for a quick buck and are just putting the bikes into containers open and into a rail system which is not very safe.
From my side of things it was an easy purchase as I spoke to one of the guys that did work on the bike (Joe Bruton) he set my mind at ease and told me exactly what he did to the bike. He did not do the restore but he did do alot of engine work to get it back to origional and running as it should. The other good thing was all the origional parts that were removed came with the sale.
I am so looking forward to getting the bike and starting it for the first time.
Will keep you you guys updated as I will most definately need the Forums help.
Regards
Frank

Re: New to Ducati
Welcome Frank
That is one fine looking motorcycle you have there. I envy you guys who get the Duc's close enough to original to take them back again. My 69 scramber had been cafe-ified when I got it and I have not attempted to take it back. It is a blast to ride though. I've learned that any question you have about these sweet little singles can be answered by one of several expert level members. Good luck.

Re: New to Ducati
Welcome Frank!
Lovely little bike you have!
Where about's in Aus are you located? There's a couple of us from around Sydney.
As for shipping, I bought a Mach 1 from Canada recently. Shipping took about 3 and a half months as it went Montreal/Rotterdam/Singapore/Sydney.
Also, you'll be in for a fright when you receive your customs bill. Mine was roughly $1000 for customs inspection and clearance fee's and then I had to pay 10% (of the bikes purchase price) GST on top of that.
Anyways, welcome to the Ducati dating boards!

Hi Octane,
Im in Sydney as well and am really looking forward to getting the bike here.
As for shipping I have organised a direct service.
I suppose that it is one perk from my job as I move freight from Europe on a daily basis and have a lot of contacts in the industry.
I have been following your story on the Mach 1 and its a nice looking bike for sure.
Thansk again

Hi All,
Just a quick update.
Bike arrived in Sydney over the Christmas holiday and has just passed the customs inspection this morning. So restless night ahead as tomorrow morning I pick up the bike.

Re: New to Ducati
Hi All,
Today was a fantastic day. Picked up the bike and it was far better than I expected.
Needs some minor things but nothing major.
Added some fuel and checked the oil and was keen to get it started. Second kick and it came to life. I could not believe it and it sounds amazing.
Have 2 weeks vacation and one is already booked to give the bike a going over to make sure all is in order for the road.
Do need some help on a taillight lense though as it was packed tight in the container and it cracked the lense.
It is a CEV 127 round lense.
Will post some images and a clip later.
Any assistance will be appreciated.
Thanks in advance
Frank
