Hi,
Can anyone give me a diffinitive answer about frame lugs on a 250 Mach 1.It would seem that quite a few bikes have the extra,un-used lug on the rear frame section, sometimes used as a passenger footpeg and some dont.Is it to do with the fact that later Mach 1's towards the end of their build were the same as Mark 3's or is it to do with the fact that some came with dual seats so the factory retained the lugs if you wanted to fit pillion footrests.my bike is a genuine UK Mach ! and it has these lugs.

Re: frame lugs
I know this doesn't really answer your question, but just for informative purposes I will post it here.
I believe my Mach 1 to have been sold in 1966 in the USA. The fork leg stamp says June of 1965.
I have a U-shaped tube with threads on either side. The location of the curved kick-starter at rest precludes any mounting of a left-side passenger peg.
The same tube but on the opposite side provides the mount for the Silentium or megaphone. If a passenger footpeg were fitted on the right side the passenger's right toes would likely interfere with the "heel" part of the shifter.
The center houses a rubber stop for the center-stand.
Other than that there are no extra lugs in the area where a passenger's feet would be. Let me know if you want other photos.
A guy with an M3 used to live a few blocks away, but he sold the bike to buy a house. Otherwise I could have shot some photos of his frame. He let that bike go for about $7,000 USD. Well, that was his asking price. Maybe the buyer got it for less. Maybe someone in the forum with a M3 will post some photos for comparison.
It might be nice to get a shot of your bike's lugs too.
Welcome to the forum.
Jim

Digital-Picture Posting...

____ I've copied the following instructions to here from another thread, (although now fairly altered, mainly to prevent breaking our rule against duplicating identical posts) .....
____ And for anyone else who's not clear on exactly how to submit your intended pictures along with your post here (at this w.site), here's the method I suggest (so as to not somehow loose you post-wording in the process)...
__ After you've safely gotten your text posted, (and you're still logged-in at this w.site), note the 'EDIT' button (directly to the Right of your post's Title), included on your post-page (on which you wish to add digital-pics to), and click on that edit-button,
then scroll-down towards the bottom of the presented page (which allows for editing), and click on the 'Upload attachment' button...
You will then be presented with a 'Browse' button of which clicking-on will then provide the means to locate any pictures which you already have stored (in some folder) within your PC. - (I myself keep a folder named: '_HOLDER-folder', on drive-C,, so as to transfer into it & temporarily keep within, any pictures which I'll later wish to quickly find for this upload-process.)
NEXT, after you've double-clicked on your chosen picture*, you may add a 'File comment' and then click the button: 'Add the file' .
You may repeat the process twice more (for 3 pictures per post),
and when you're ready to finally add your pictures to your post, you can then click on the 'Submit' button, which will then present you with your (completed) posting, just as usual.
(* Keep in mind that the first added picture -('file') will end-up being placed in the bottom-position [in the case of more than one picture per post].)
__ If you happen to have any further questions on these extended instructions, then please be sure to ask !
Hopeful-Cheers,
-Bob
PLEASE NOTE... If this-post is not-yet signed-off with '-Bob', then I'm still in the process of completing it,, and if not also included with 'DCT' near bottom as well, then I may edit this post's wording at a later time. - Dct.Bob

Re: frame lugs
Hi Steve,
I just have a single threaded "bobbin" on either side along the tubes that run up to the shock mount. I take it that maybe you have an extra set of bobbins attached to the frame that passenger pegs could screw into if a dual-seat saddle were to be fitted.
It would make sense for Ducati to think about minimizing frame variations between models such that more components (frame included) could be utilized where needed. It would be a shame to be assembling Monzas and run out of frames while perhaps some almost identical Mach 1 frames a few hundred feet away sat idle because a few tabs and bobbins were not implemented.
I suspect that as new models were developed and if a new frame lug or tab was required, the frames for older models still in production inherited the new frame even though it exhibited some variations that were pointless on the old model, such as passenger peg mounts on a M1. A little company like Ducati would probably have had to stretch their inventory to save money.
I'm just guessing of course.
