Engine mount bolt length

Postby kaysystems » Tue Jun 30, 2026 6:57 pm

The parts catalog shows the engine mount bolts, but I don't see the nuts. Are they self locking?
When I bought my bike they were ordinary nuts.

Thanks

All the wide case bikes I’ve had all had plain nuts, not nyloc.

Nyloc

Pics from some of my Mach 1s

Parts book item 330 states Elastic Stop-nyloc?

If you require bolt lengths ill measure that for you

Not sure if its a wide or narrow case engine you are working with? my 74 Mk 3 350 which I purchased new came with 'nyloc' nuts on all the engine mounting bolts and I am pretty sure on just about everything else as well.

no nylock nuts but the higher nuts D x 1.5 i think . sometimes you need a 14 mm wrench but i dont recal if thats for the bolt or the nut .

Lurking in a dark corner I believe I found one of the original nuts that I removed before doing a complete restoration on my bikes.

As Eldert correctly mentioned the originals are not Nylok.

A 13mm open ended spanner will not fit this nut, however a 14mm spanner will , but with some slack.

Thanks

It's a 250 Mk3 narrowcase. The original bolts and nuts vanished in a house move, so I'm searching for original looking ones.

I'd be grateful for a length measurement.
I think that finding those nuts could be tricky, as are some others. The front wheel axel seems special. Luckily I have my original

Here is a pic of a bolt which I removed to get the measurement for you, as stated in the parts book-85 mm

Hi again,
I have 4 Mach 1s, one from the USA, the others from Cyprus,I am the second owner of these bikes. They are all in safe storage at the moment, however, I found some time to go to them today-when I removed the bolt to measure it for you I noticed that the four nuts were all nyloc, I then had a look at the other bikes and they are exactly the same, so all 4 bikes came from the factory with nyloc nuts. My comment about 'I 'think' I found an original nut is therefore incorrect.

Its well documented that the factory used what was available on the day, so possibly the other nut may have been fitted to other bikes, how I have it remains a mystery.

Thank you very much for the help. I purchased a bolt kit some time ago. The mount bolts were 90mm. Not a big deal, but they just have too much thread protrusion.

I'll find some somewhere. to correct the issue
