I thought that I ought to bring this to everyone's attention! As reported in July's 'Classic Bike' there is legislation going through the UK Parliament as we speak, that could put an end to old bikes.
I believe that this is an EU directive that we are (as usual) slavishly copying; and it is a proposal that in the interests of safety, old vehicles can only be restored and repaired using original factory parts, which would obviously have the effect of destroying our hobby and ending the livelihoods of parts suppliers. There are other implications surrounding obtaining insurance for old vehicles too, because the owner would have to prove that the vehicle was only made up of original parts, otherwise the insurance would be invalidated.
There was a consultation surrounding this proposal which (as usual) nobody knew about, which ended with only 1500 people responding. I would like to say that I hope that our Government will act sensibly, but with Net Zero on the horizon, they will obviously do all that they can to end the use of internal combustion vehicles, especially old ones.
Yours in forever optimism,
Colin

Re: Dangerous Legislation
According to the VMCC's legislation man Roger Bibbings, Historic vehicles will be exempt. That should cover everything related to Motoscrubs' field of interest, although most of us probably have other things which may not yet be Historic.
The motorcycle lobby groups are fighting our corner.
(I have not read anything myself except what Roger has put on the VMCC Forum.)
