A couple of years ago, I came into possession of an unfinished 350 Desmo race bike project, the builder had passed away suddenly before completing the project. The project came with a Dellorto SSI35B carb and SS1 float.
Over about the last 18 months, I have managed to put the bike together and fired it up on rollers for the first time yesterday. The bike fired up instantly and all seemed well except that it is spitting fuel out of a small hole drilled into the idle mixture screw circuit, facing the air intake side. There are a bunch of drillings on these carbs that I figured were to balance out internal pressures. The carb appeared to be in very good condition and was thoroughly cleaned. Not sure what is causing the fuel spitting. I double and triple checked the float level, all good.
I don't have much information on the cam but it has lots of overlap. Notes that came with the bike said cam should be installed with 8.5 degrees advance - lower bevel tooth back one tooth, upper bevel advanced one tooth, which I did. Could the cam advance and overlap be causing back pressure through the carb idle circuit?
The only other detail I can provide about the carb is that the enrichening circuit is not hooked up, the brass plunger and spring are still in there but the cable ferrule hole blocked with a screw.
Any insight appreciated. This fuel issue is all that is preventing me from testing and tuning the bike.
Thank you.
Derek
