Tappet Adjustment

Postby frankfast » Mon Feb 14, 2022 10:38 pm

I'm trying to determine which tappet spec I should use since my bike has a mixture of parts. It's a 350 Scrambler WC but has a white cam that, I believe, is from a 250 Scrambler. Since they both use winkler caps for adjusting, their specifications are the same. However I'm using screw type adjuster rocker arms probably from a Monza or Sebring and their specs for tappet adjustment are tighter. Is it the cam that determines tappet adjustment or the type of rocker arm used?

I was under the impression that the white cam was used on both the narrow case and wide case 250 Scramblers. Yet, according to the workshop manual the profiles (valve timing) are slightly different as are the tappet adjustments. Can anybody confirm?

Difficult one, Ducati's printed data is notoriously unreliable. It would seem logical that all white cams should have the same timing figures, but I don't know..... I think that a definitive answer to this may have to come from someone who has done a lot of work rebuilding engines, so maybe Eldert or Nigel would know?
