Piston Stop

I am going to buy a piston stop so I can find TDC the using the Carl Liebold method.

I need a 14mm stop, correct?

Just as an aside, I know you are jammed up for time, but I knocked the insulator out of a plug, tapped the body and threaded a bolt into it to use as a piston stop. I rounded the end of the bolt off so it wouldn't gouge the piston top. Put a jam nut on top to lock the bolt into position once I settle on a length. some people drill a hole through the bolt to vent compression, but I couldn't keep the hole straight. I settled on cutting a grove down one side of the internal threads to allow pressure to escape.

I just finished building my timing wheel arbor and once my 14mm allen bit socket gets here I will attempt to do the timing. I had planned on photographing the tools and posting here after I made sure they all work.

I just made one last week and it took about 15 minutes. All you need is an old plug, a 3/8 bolt, and a 3/8 tap. Instead of drilling a hole I Dremeled a thin slot up the side of the bolt - much easier and accomplishes the same thing.

If you are going to order online, the brass one from Crane Cams looks like the nicest for just over $10.

Go gently with it, its easy to gouge the sloping piston top, a plastic tip would be good.
