I'm new to this forum, than you for accepting my membership. I own a '71 250 narrow case 24 Horas 5 speed. Anyone out there with similar, interested to know your experiences. I love mine and she gets used regularly (weekends etc) and very reliable but parts not very compatible across Italian models and maybe similar Mototrans models. Kickstart mech components appear to be different thus a problem, bump start only for me these days until I track down the parts!

Hi - My kickstart shaft gear teeth / mating layshaft-end ratchet gear have both lost teeth and are not serviceable. I have spoken to a number of helpful Ducati-people over the weeks but so far no luck (you may be one of them!). No other damage. It is a narrow case 5 speed.

The 1st gear on a 24 Horas that the kickstart engages with is exclusive to Spanish 5-speed narrowcase models. I.E. 24 Horas, 200 TS, 200 V5 Elite, 250 Road narrowcase. Part no.0603.16.050/2
The ratchet that engages with the 1st gear is a 22 tooth gear that is similar to some 5-speed narrowcase Italian machines.
Part no.0603.07.280
The kickstart shaft itself is also exclusive to the Spanish 5-speed narrowcase models, although the Spanish 4-speed kickstart shaft can be modified to fit. Part no. 0603.07.110/2
The problem with the Spanish kickstart shaft is that the pitch circle of the gear teeth is different from the Italian models and not interchangeable.
There are used kickstart parts available in Spain, but they are getting expensive.
You may have to buy a complete used gearbox in order to get the parts you need.
I may have the odd part spare, but I have almost used all the Spanish kickstart parts I have on various bikes.- 24 Horas, V5 Elite and 200TS.

Thanks Jon, that's very useful. I came to the conclusion that this was an unusual configuration because no one that has tried to assist have the right combination.
End of the day the bike means a lot to me so guess I'll have to pay my way out somehow unless I'm lucky, getting the contacts is the key really. I have some potential leads in USA and one in UK that have not yet materialised. If you have any contacts into Spain (I don't speak Spanish unfortunately!) that would be helpful?

Differing views of gear repairs due to hardening degradation, I'm not convinced that route is viable.

Rick
