Thanks Jon,
That's a positive report that Motoplat alternators (all of them?) fitted to Ducati singles will work fine to keep a 12V battery charged, even in less than best conditions - headlight on, low speed riding. I take it that not the same can be said about Ducati's own? Or are they just as versatile?
It's given me another option for my 350. I have one of the pickups from a Dyna-S (ex roundcase twin) available. The other one is working well on an old British bike I have, on which I recently discovered can be made to start the bike without a battery. If a standard Ducati alternator (points ignition type) can generate enough voltage at kickover speed to make the Dyna-S work, it'd be a happy outcome.
Thanks also to Bill and Bob for inspiration.

Thread-Topic & Post-Subject Divergence
" Maybe we're getting a bit off topic now and should post this in the Mototrans section. "
____ I agree with Jon (about the topic subject-matter wondering-off) and will soon begin fixing (but not altering) the situation. _ This kind of situation -(mixed separate subjects under the same topic-title) naturally happens fairly often, and I've always had an inclination to do something to address these occurrences but hadn't yet bothered to figure-out exactly what to do about it.
Because Jon's info here is a combination of being quite unique & too important to leave to be only found under just this particular (unrelated) thread, I'm going to try an idea (which has just now occurred to me), of reproducing these (topic-unrelated) posts under other (to be created) threads, in such a way as to get-around our related w.site-rule -(against identical posts being posted in more than one place within this w.site).
__ Cuz not long ago, Jim gave me the OK for 'moving' such around (but not 'copying' it!),
however, I usually find that many posts have their contained subjects intertwined and thus still belong where they've been originally placed, as well ! _ So just MOVING them would not be exactly fair, and thus why I haven't yet ever tried.
If Jim finds my idea unacceptable, (I doubt it though), then all concerned may need to agree whether or not to 'move' any particular post, on a case-by-case basis.
____ I also intend to soon post additional info, concerning Jordan's alternator concerns, within the appropriate thread (which has already been established for such).
____ I'll update this post afterwords, confirming that I've then completed these jobs.
Hopeful-Cheers,
-Bob
____ UPDATE! ... I've now completed the creation of the New-thread (& post), which Jon thought ought to be done in our Mototrans-section ! _ Next, hopefully Jon will notice it & follow-through with some pix (of his unusual & rare Duke-alternators), to add to that new thread. - Titled: "Concerning Alternator-units of various Mototrans Duc.Motors", - Link: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=436#p3082
__ Further-UPDATE: I've now added a new/related post (inspired by Jordan's post-subject), within the most appropriate established thread (on w-c charging-systems). - Titled: "12-Volt Charging-System using a W-C Alternator", - Link: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=388&start=20#p3083

PLEASE NOTE... If this-post is not-yet signed-off with '-Bob', then I'm still in the process of completing it,, and if not also included with 'DCT' near bottom as well, then I may edit this post's wording at a later time. - Dct.Bob
