Ignition frustration du jour

For those following this thread - I aligned the flywheel and assembled everything. Kicked through. No spark.
Then I switched wires and connected the lighting circuit wire to the coil and - spark. Starts first kick.

What puzzles me is that the ignition wire puts out a bit more voltage than the lighting wire, but will not make a spark through the HT coil.
