Sheesh!!!!

I had no idea that a question about my Shotgun harness would go viral!

An amazing wealth of know how on this board. AWESOME!

I'm with bamnfi. As a newbie here, I'm going down to the store room to pull out the old physics text books for a mature age refresher course!!

[EDIT} I totally agree with him. This forum has been a fantastic find for me too. Thanks to you all. [END EDIT]

" I'm under the impression it had points originally. "

____ So do you think it's an Italian-Duke (not Mototrans) then?

I don't know, except it's supposed to be the last (1974?) model, with the big bottom end bearing. Is there a way to confirm country of origin?

" It went well for thousands of miles, but eventually started to misfire, "

____ What carb.model do you have on it?

Presently, a remote float type SSI29 (for the period styling). I had a VHB29 on it earlier.
I don't think it's a carburettor problem, but it's been so long ago I can't remember why I came to that conclusion.

"" Is there a way to confirm country of origin? "

____ Yes, there's a number of clues, usually the Mototrans have "Made in Spain" cast onto various motor parts.
What type of compression-release does your 350 have? - Valve-cover type ?

" Presently, a remote float type SSI29 (for the period styling). I had a VHB29 on it earlier. "

____ Those SSIs can contribute to an assortment of annoyances, you should make sure that your issue remains even with the happier 'square-slide' Dellorto.
I assume you've already eliminated the spark-plug & cable as contributors.

Hopeful-Cheers,

When I bought the bike in bits, it came with no head, cylinder or piston. I fitted a Desmo head. I haven't noticed a Made in Spain anywhere, except on the Motoplat electrics that I bought and fitted later. Does the method of compression release identify origin?

Pretty sure I would've done that. Good idea to refit the VHB temporarily. It works better, but the SSI looks better!

I put some photos in the Photos Gallery section. It's dusty and neglected, but much loved and will be recommissioned one day.

" Does the method of compression release identify origin? "

____ Well, the Mototrans 350s use the method-type which directly bleeds the combustion-chamber (similar to a 450R/T).

" I put some photos in the Photos Gallery section. "

____ I managed to find all 11 (even though they weren't actually within that section)... Nice pix of a very fine looking DUKE !

DUKE-Cheers,

Oh, just in rubbish bins and skips :)
I had about 6 singles, all widecase, and collected some bits in my travels - wreckers, private sales etc.

____ I just thought that you might've been one of those few buyers who paid over 700-bucks for a 350-DESMO head on eBay last year.

Yep, saw them Captain. Been told they are not suitable for the Shotgun :(

Looking at sites to buy bits to make my own. Lots of fotos before and after so the bleeding thing will still run. Crosses fingers! :?

____ Not to worry Bam, if you wish for any confirmation of which wire goes where, I can set you straight with that. _ As wire-harness building for various DUKE-models has been quite a fun endeavor for me many times in the past !
__ As you work to complete your very-own harness-project, is it your intention to use proper wire-gauges & colors, (as I hope!) ?
