Petcocks needed!

The new to me 250 has two completely plugged petcocks.

Trying to blow air through them in any position is like trying to blow air through a rock.

I don't want to loose any time by ordering the wrong petcocks (wrong thread pitch, that kind of thing.)

Does anybody know a vendor and petcock that fits the singles? It's the Mach 1 style tank, save this one doesn't have the indent for the the SSI29.

Maybe just give me the thread size/pitch?

Thanks!

Jim:

Guzzino has lots of taps in various size/pitch. I got my replacements from him.

As far as what size yours are, when I was looking to replace mine I took one to the hardware store and tried a couple of different nuts on it until I found the right one. Low tech but it worked.

Jim, They are 10mm x 1.0 pitch

You can get them from almost any Ducati single parts supplier, I have bought them from classic ducati, Lacey Engineering, Italian Motorbikes (ebay) Guzzino.com, and most recently domi-racer... I think Italian Motorbikes had the best price which is ironic because they are shipped from Italy, but they are also made in italy, many of the ones you find elsewhere are Taiwanese...

Thanks Joe,

That's what I needed to know. Summer time is running out here in North America.

The bike I bought hasn't run in years, and I suspect some small amount of fuel puddled in both the petcocks for years. All the percocks I have ever seen have metal levers, but this bike's petcock levers were black plastic. I bet the fuel melted the plastic. I might take them apart just to see.

Jim,

Hard to believe it was sitting that long...couldnt tell from the pics. Looked really clean. If you want to try to save some $$ though I would take a good look at the petcocks first, because I have bought some Italian made repro. petcocks from domiracer that look just like the originals, except for having a black plastic fuel shutoff lever... But ive looked inside one and it wasnt plastic inside, just the external lever was. The are still good quality, they just dont look original, might be worth trying to clean them, a lot of times nothing is even wrong with them... if it sat for 40 years I would say dont waste your time... They might be totally different than the ones i bought, but if they say OMG on them, they are made in italy, and other than the lever are about identical to the oem ones.

It sat in the seller's living room. I know the seller, I knew the bike was there. I never knew he would sell it, and never would have guessed that he would have offered it to me first.

____ Just a link to another/older related thread.

__ I was sure the question of thread-size had been brought-up once before, but found only this one other thread.
Seems that besides the 10x1.0mm thread, that '1/8th" pipe-thread' was also an option.
