Power-output Testing of 6-pole Alt.stator, by wcorey

____ This thread has been continued-over (from another related thread-post - viewtopic.php?f=3&t=556&start=70#p4192 ) so that Bill can start a fresh beginning with his bench-testing of Ducati 6-pole alternator(s), with hopes of providing good/trustworthy factual-figures on power-output.
He has a fairly good setup which has not been (at least in recent years), nor likely will ever be done by any better means. _ So we are certainly quite fortunate to have this data which Bill is so gracious to supply us with, (at whatever his pace may be) !

____ (Other such related stuff which Bill has done [to be found at this w.site], is to be found here at the end of this link: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=144&start=20#p2727 ).

Fun-Cheers,

____ Below, I've carried-forth the pertinent bulk of Bill's post from the other thread (which it was originally placed within).
I did not try to 'move' it to this location because it's of course too important for me to try learning the process of moving-posts, with ! _ And besides, it's also still (at least for the time-being) needed where it's at. - ( viewtopic.php?f=3&t=556&start=100#p4233 )
__ The included pictures which Mike posted along-with, seem to have their right-sides cut-off a bit at both thread-locations, (at least with my Firefox-browser).
I will see about fixing that issue somehow, but they all should be completely viewable in their entirety, once downloaded to your PC.

Fun-Cheers,
-Bob

Ok, I'm back and open for business, ready for duty as test mule.

I'm putting up some pics so we can point to/refer to details more directly and descriptively, not so organized to be self explanatory but at least with consistently color coded wires on all but the meters.

I get .5 ohm across 1 and 3, .6 ohm across 2 and 4. No reading across 1and 2 or 3 and 4 (a meg ohm if I hold the leads on with my fingers ;) ).

Here's the whole mickey mouse shootin' match:

Image

Here's how I get 6k rpm, for 3450 I remove the belt and use the smaller motor directly;

Image

The two original wires from the stator (1 and 2) are the black cord , with a black and a white conductor.
The added wires (3 and 4) are the yellow ones (one has a black stripe). (all coming out of the alternator at 8 o'clock and draped over the grey motor)
The other end of the black wire (through it's set of coils) is yellow/black, the white wire has the plain yellow at it's other end.
(since 1,2,3 and 4 aren't color coded on the drawing, the two pairs are interchangeable in my descriptions)

The black wire has a purple jumper connection,
the white has a grey jumper,
the yellow has yellow
and the black/yellow has orange.

Image

The meters will remain in this order, amps, vac, vdc; (edit note; already noticed an inconsistency, the orange wire in this pic is now yellow in the newer convention)

Image

I switched them around for calibration relativity, not spot on but mostly within a tenth of one decimal point;

I added a 1 ohm resistor in series with the original 1 ohm, this is the output result (single winding 1and 3 at 3450 rpm);
