Megaphone drawings coming

I have a circa 1960's factory megaphone for my 250, and I was asked by a friend to provide its dimensional information such that a copy could be made.

To fulfill that commitment I am having the megaphone transcribed into Solid Works, and in addition to a dimensional drawing there will also be a 3D image that can be rotated for reference (you will need to download and install the free Solid Works eDrawings viewer to take advantage of the 3D model.)

I'll be posting the drawings soon on the technical page.

Was it uncommon for those megaphones to come on US bikes? were they the result of some R&D or did they just look right?

I imagine they are real ear splitters!

Not sure if I saw somewhere that Syds making copies of these.

Thank you, Jim.
That should help a lot if anyone wants to make one.

Thanks, a nice drawing. I'll bet SolidWorks would let him 'unroll' the sheet metal and project it as a flat part that could be rolled and stich welded- for those of us who don't have a slip roll, a little hammer and dolly work will make a nice part.

Russ in Wisconsin has some students that are going to fabricate a megaphone for a bike they are building (if I remember the story correctly) and so I told him I would get him the dimensions.

I suppose for most of us if you can just buy a nice repro from Syd's that's a lot easier.

But since I went through the exercise of making the drawing for Russ and his students it only made sense to put it up on the website.

I've never put the megaphone on my 250. I ran the 250 by accident (long story) in the garage late at night with nothing but the open header and the decibel level was ear drum shattering. I can only imagine what the megaphone would do, but if I do put it on I won't run the engine except outside.

I've attached a drawing of the sheet metal pattern for the main cone of the megaphone- cut out the pattern and roll it up into a cone.
Anyone who wants to check my rusty trigonometry is welcome to verify my numbers.
