Mototrans Identification...

Hi Together!

Some days ago I got a Ducati 250 Mototrans in a very poor condition and now try to identify type and year of the bike.
From the infos I got here in the forum it should be a late "DeLuxe". The frame nr. is MD 93 *** and it was registered on the spanish numer plate B-3454-AP (Barcelona). Is there any way to find out when it was registred?

I'll next have look inside the engine if there is anything to salvage... The bike was dry stored for 30 years, so it's a surprise bag.

Thanks
Jo

Hi Jo,

There is a way to find out when it was registered, and that is to wait for Jon Pegler who is the Mototrans expert on this site, to see you post! He will know everything about it (hopefully).

Cheers,

Colin

Perfect! My Duc waited 30 years, so no problem.

Thanks!

Very nice of Colin to give me such an accolade.
Your Barcelona registration dates from 1974, which would agree with a 250 De Luxe manufactured that year.
Those last De Luxe models had all sorts of different tanks and side panels fitted as production was coming to an end.
It should be a 5-speed model.

Thank you Jon.

One detail I'm puzzled about is the swingarm with this strange extension.
Does anyone know what it could be?

Your swinging arm has some sort of home made addition.
I'd just cut it off and clean up the surrounding area.

There is a suspicion that my motorcycle is a former police bike. One reason is the black colour. Someone told me there were no black "De Luxe" Bikes, except police bikes. Aside from that I got a wind screen with the bike, that looks very police bikish (If someone has interest in the screen, please tell me...).
Now I noticed a detail on an Mototrans police bike image published at wikipedia: There is also a strange installation on the wing arm (maybe a siren?) just like my one. What do you think?
