early singles racing- insignia?

In some of the books I have there are pictures of early singles racers with their bikes. I see on the racer's leathers, typically on the left sleave, a shield shaped patch about 3 or 4 inches tall. Can't make out what is on this patch and they are black and white photos, so I can't tell the color other than to say it is light and contrasts with the leathers. Does anyone know or have a good image of this shield?

Nope, I don't think so. I'll see if I can find the best picture to scan.

this is a link on the ducati museum site. select Ducati History from the spinning helix. Then on the timeline sellect the 55/56/57/58 link. A photo comes up. The first one has Taglioni in the middle of a group of 4 racers with a gransport in front of them. The rider on the far right has the insignia. if you hit the next arrow immediately to the right of the picture an iconic picture that is very cool comes up depicting a rider (266) stradling his racer and walking it towards you while he enjoys a smoke. cool striped helmet and the same insignia on the sleeve.

Are you talking about the simple "D" insignia?

Thats one of the photos Jim, not too visible here, but I'm talking about the shield patch on the left sleeve. In the photo before that you can make out a letter or two. I don't think it is the Ducati Meccanica shield. But that is a great shot of Maoggi,266.

Wow, after a search of images on the net, I've only found a few images none with any clarity. Maybe they were something personal to the riders.
