side stand/kick stand

When I got the bike it did not have a kick stand, only the center stand. Is it common to pull off the kick stand and only use the center? was the kick stand functional? It looks sort of cumbersome with the extra foot pad on it so you can access it. I am considering pulling the plate the mount is on and using a die grinder to remove the mount. thoughts on this are appreciated.

I have the kick-stand plate intact, but just the center stand is on the bike. I guess if it were heavier I'd be more inclined to use a kick.

So the kick stands are funtional? I have a moto guzzi on which the side stand was guaranteed to allow your bike would fall over.

I took the side stand off my SCR.
Personally I think they look kinda wonky and the spring on mine was not very strong. Felt like the stand would bounce around.
See them on flea bay every once in awhile if you really wanted one.

Pesonally, I quite like the kick or side stand on the Ducati singles. They certainly are a bit more robust than some of the more recent Ducati offerings. They are quite a well designed item.
If you do want to fit one, bear in mind that not only do they come in different lengths for different models, but the stand pivot shaft comes in different diameters. Measure the bore of the bronze bushes fitted into the mounting plate before buying one or you may have to make up some different bushes to fit.
