I have the subject compression release and want to use it on my 250 rebuild. The operating lever is missing as is the cable bracket that mounts to a head bolt. I found a pic of the release installed on the web, but it does not show clear detail of the lever, which I need to make so I can use this.

Can somebody please post a pic of the operating lever? I suspect that it might have a small tang that presses on the rod that holds the valve open. I see that the lever has a hocket stick shape. But cannot see the area where the lever contacts the shaft head.

I checked the 450 parts manual in the tech section, but it does not seem to work with either of my browsers.

Hi all, hate to resurrect an old thread like this, but my Scrambler has come to the top of the list.

It’s on the lift at school, and I went over it today trying to refresh my memory as to where I left off 12 years ago when I put the bike into storage (traveling job)

One thing that has me a little baffled is the compression release. Both my instructor (accomplished bike restorer, but mostly BMW and UJMs) and I seem to feel like there’s something missing here:

Is there not something akin to a thumbwheel adjuster that fits into the release lever?

Also, I was lucky enough to score this some years ago and I put it into service (partially) today.

Rather than the barrel nut on the release lever end, it has a ball that fits into the chamfered end of the fitting on the head bolt. I’m wonder if anything goes on the other end save a normal thumb wheel cable adjuster, and if so, does someone know where I can score a barrel lick the fits into the handlebar lever?

If anyone has any closeups of both headcand handlebar, I would really appreciate it. I’ve been scouring my Scrambler files and nothing shows them very clearly.

No adjuster at the bottom end, only at the top lever originally.
Your bottom cable end fitting is much longer than the original, and the smaller diameter should fit inside the lever's hole so the larger diameter step abuts against it.

I see. Being an aftermarket cable, it doesn't have the correct end. I'll have to check my parts boxes and see if I have a stepped end.

Give me some dimensions, and I'll have a look here too.

The lever appears to be 4 mm. But I think I found my original cable which appears to be serviceable. At least until my new cable set arrives from Italy.

I don't have a spare lever, but do you need the ferrule we talked about?
