Hi all-

I was wondering what kind of shocks people are using on their bikes. I'm rebuilding a '66 Sebring and have the stock shocks which could be used if I find a source for new seals, but thought that there might be something better out there.

Any shocks to avoid?

I bought Hagon shocks specific to my weight. I ride a 250 NC bitsa motogiro special. Very happy with the handling improvement over old original shock.

If you are not looking for originality, +1 for Hagons, both for road and race. Cheap simple and work. Alternative springs available if required, mostly stock is okay, but it depends on your weight and your riding. Standard (as supplied) 300mm length seems right for narrowcase, but I prefer 310mm units on the later widecase bikes. Tried plenty of more expensive fancy shocks on race bikes with worse results. They also make versions with adjustable damping, but not tried them on a single.

What about your budget? Do you want to spend $300 on a set of
shocks? Or would you rather spend that money on something else?
There is plenty of information on rebuilding the stock shocks on this site.
It is very easy to do, and they work just fine.
I don't know what condition your project is in but don't underestimate the fact
that you will be spending a substantial amount of money.
Maybe you're rich as hell... LOL.. I don't know
I know I'm not at all so I have to take my time to gather parts save money
wherever I can, even sell things I don't want to.
If you are on a budget I strongly suggest using the stock shocks, your money will be better
spent on other parts you will need.

Thanks for the replies all! I will look into the Hagons. Something like the Works Performance shocks or Ikons would be nice but I don't know if I can justify the price. These will be for a ~200 lb. rider on 'spirited' back road runs.

Amartina75, thanks for the questions. The project started as a basketcase, and is getting close to assembly. Frame parts have been powder coated, wheels built, new bearings installed in the motor, everything cleaned and inspected. I'll have to put up some photos soon. I wish I was rich! The motor will need a new piston so I would like to save some money for that.

If you dont need new and shiney, i have a pair of old konis that you can have for 50 plus whtever shipping is. They will need new mounting bushings

I'd be interested in your originals should you go the aftermarket route.
