Oil dip stick

Hi I have two oil dip sticks which came with the basket case I purchased, there is a short and a long one which do I use on a widecase motor or is it a case of matching up with the lenght of the dipstick housing or how far should it protrude into the crankcase?

Hello Sam
Wide case has an extension piece that screws into the crank case then the dip stick screws into the extension piece.
Best filling to level with the bottom of the extension piece.
I've never bothered looking at the dip stick.
But the dip stick for wide case has 2 rings machined into the stick ( about 2" long?)
