Gear selector drum

Hi can someone please tell me which way up the selector drum sits on a 250 5 speed box cant see nothing in the manual, or can you tell me which way the gears operate down for up or up for down?

Hi Sam
first gear is up neutral and 2nd to 5th are down . with the selectorbox off first is counterclockwise the rest clockwise .

Hi Elbert
Are you describing this using a heel toe gear change? or does the direction change through the selectorbox?

My 1965 160 (Sophia) is running and driving.
However, this thread is of special interest. From neutral I pressed down on the forward lever pad and released the clutch, but it was difficult to pull away. I may have been in second, so to clarify from Neutral:
1st - rock the lever BACK so the toes are pointing up?
2nd - rock forward and press the toes down, rest to horiozontal
3rd - forward and down, rest to horizontal etc through 5th.
Downshift from 5th - rock back with toes pointing up, etc down to neutral.
I beleive that's the route. Will double check again this afternoon.

That's the ticket.
Rock back from neutral for first, then rock forward to get all the way up to 5th.

____ First-off, you should be informed that 160-models don't have a "5th" gear !
__ Next,, in my opinion, the foot-shifting pattern of Ducati's heel/toe shift-lever is as logically sensible as can possibly be !
Starting-out with 'heeled' down (all the worked back-down way) for 1st,
then 'toed' down a half-click for neutral,
or toe-down a full-click for 2nd,
then next, toe-down for 3rd,
and finally, toe-down for 4th.
Then of-course heel-down for shifting back-down through the gears towards neutral or 1st.
__ Ya only have other relatively stupid bike-trans.designers to thank for any other alternate (and less logical) shift-pattern to cause ya to question the confusion of what a bike's shift-pattern might be !
