Hey all! Im the new guy, so i figured id drop in and say hi. I recently picked up a 350 widecase raceprepped bike, and have 2 races under my belt on it. A few questions...

Do the transmissions on these bikes get harder to shiff when they get hot? I notice when i get 3/4 race distance, the bike gets more difficult to downshift...

Are there any electronic ignitions available for these lil fellas?

I see a bunch of racers running oil lines from the head down to the lower case...any writeups on what to do/where to drill?

Thats all i can think of currently...ill try to attach a pic.

That's a nicely prepared bike. Have you had some success in your two races or is it too early for knowing how hard you can push the Duc?


There are electronic ignitions available. I believe there are at least two and probably more for 12VDC bikes and at least one for 6VDC bikes.


I imagine that your race bike may be running a total loss ignition system to save weight and put the available power to the rear wheel. I would also imagine then that the battery would be a 12 volt one.


I had a 450 that I converted to 12 volts and I was running a Lucas RITA, but I bought the RITA used and I am not sure who sells them new particularly with the reluctor that fits the Duc. Mine came with a taller points cover lid to clear the reluctor which mounts where the points would have been.


Perhaps Boyer Bransden makes one for Ducati singles. I am sure others will weigh in on this and your other questions soon.

Thanks for the quick reply Jim. And thanks for the compliment! The bike was mostly prepped when i got it, but i had to finalize a few things.

Ill look into Boyer ignitions. I spoke to a guy at the track and he said a modified dyna from a 750/900 would work, but id hate to destroy a brandy new dyna if there is one available for the 350.

edit: the bike is total loss, and running a 12v battery.

You may be in luck with the shift problem. There's an adjuster on the outside of the selector box, under the gear lever shaft. You can loosen the 10mm hex nut and turn the slotted screw and retighten the nut. Try it any way, just a little, and see if it gets better or worse on a test ride. If it's worse, try the other direction.
If that doesn't fix it, the selector box can be removed as a sub-assembly from the engine for repairs - a great feature.
It can be clamped in a bench vice to check operation. When refitting to the engine, a point to watch is that it's possible to have the inner shaft 180 degrees out.

You have a scrambler SCR frame, like my own 350 that has been fitted with shorter front forks and generally made more like a road bike. You need that hydraulic steering damper, to make up for the steeper rake and shortened trail. Without it, I had an unexpected crash when I hit a small road irregularity that the bike didn't recover from.

Hi Ted, The oil lines are often just extra drains to avoid oil build up in the head.
