Is the nut holding the clutch housing a reverse thread?



I am getting ready to remove it so as to implement the kick-start repair....

(Yes, I see that I forgot to get the last clutch plate off.)

No, the only LH threaded nuts are the ones for the bevel gears on the camshaft and crankshaft.

Is there a torque value for this nut when I go to put it back on?

Not that I know of.

"Tighten" is what the manual says, ... Jim . {But around 160ft/lb (215Nm) is about right for a 16mm nut.}

EDIT: Ignore this. I can't believe it's right, even tho' this value comes from the table contained in the ISO 898-1 - see message below.)

Just make sure you Loctite it (in which case, you can think about reducing the torque value by 10% or so). Even with the tab washer, the nuts can come loose. DAMHIK, but ...



Tony Brancato used to (still does?) make a modified tab washer. Not sure if it really makes a difference ...

the problem of the nut that holds the clutch centre in place coming lose is a common one .

the problem is on the inside on the inputshaft . there is a 2 mm spacer between the bearing and the shaft .
there is a nice radius on the shaft where it goes from the thicker part of the shaft to 20 mm .
the 2 mm spacer is square ( no radius ) so the spacer is not all the way home but rests on the radius
in due time the spacer gets a little bit of slack and that al the nut needs to work itself lose

when i put a engine together i make a radius on the 2 mm spacer so the spacer rest on the thicker part of the shaft
