Re: Website requests
I have been advised to update the forum software by phpBB in order to fix known security issues.
I expect to try this tonight. I am a bit of hack, so hopefully the whole website will not go down, or all the data be lost.

THE THING I HATE MOST ABOUT THIS W.SITE...
____ I really hate that this w.site makes me log-in every time after just one-hour ! ...
I very often take over a hour to type-up a posting and if I forget to post my partial-posting before my hour of time passes, I then have to log-in again... What upsets me so damm much about that is after I re-log-in, I then have to worry that everything I've typed thus far has then become lost ! _ Often I can somehow retrieve the missing wording I've written but, sometimes not and then I have to start-over again. _ I HATE THAT !
__ I've long been meaning to post my complaint about this issue but have put it off until now because I just lost an extended posting which I took a long time getting ready for posting, and it was lost when I was required to log-in again !
I really hate having to rewrite-up from scratch anything which I had just completely finished-up & was all-done with. _ So I often refuse to tackle such again, as doing so just keeps my mood in negative-mode.
__ What my request is, is that either the 1-hour time-limit be raised up to 1-day, or that the page I'm directed to after re-logging-in be the very same page which I was originally meaning to post (with all my wording still intact),
INSTEAD of the refreshed/reloaded page I always get (in place of my intended posting page), so I can then just go-ahead & post it.
____ If anyone who uses Firefox knows how to retrieve the word-typing page which I had typed my intended posting on, please give me a clue ASAP, cuz I still have that browser-window & page open on my PC, just as it was when I found my wording was no longer presented on it.
Thanks for any help,
-Bob

Re: Website requests
Yup, I really hate when that happens but it has never done it to me on this site. In fact I never ever have to log in since the first time because I never log out. Do you check the "Log me in automatically" box when you log in? That should keep you on indefinitely as long as you don't manually log yourself out after each session.
I just logged myself out while typing this reply, then logged back in and used the 'back arrow' in the upper left corner of the browser window and it will take me right back to original point were I started. Have you tried that? (Or if you don't have the toolbar with the 'back' arrow enabled you can right click and select 'back' in the pop up box.)

" In fact I never ever have to log in since the first time because I never log out. "
____ I also never bother to log-out, as I always get logged-out automatically by an hour after I've stopped changing pages ! - I hate that !
It doesn't ever matter which browser or PC I'm using, I always get logged-out without notice, after 1-hour !
" Do you check the "Log me in automatically" box when you log in? "
____ I've never made-note of such option. _ I'll look for and try it out.
" I just logged myself out while typing this reply, then logged back in and used the 'back arrow' in the upper left corner of the browser window and it will take me right back to original point were I started. Have you tried that? "
____ But of course, as that's exactly how I usually get back to the typed page which I've completed, and then go-fourth & post (after having re-logged-in).
That has most always worked okay, with Firefox (only). _ I'm thinking that it didn't work this last time because I also tried to post a pic, (all in one post-job), as well...
I spent over an hour typing my text, then conducted the preparation for adding the pic which I wanted to be uploaded, but when I next clicked-on the 'Add the file' button, I was then directed to the log-in page. _ So I logged-in, (just as usual), and when I then back-paged to the page which normally retains my typed-text, it was instead blank !!!
I tried refreshing the page where I had signed-in, as doing that has worked in the past to get replaced with another page showing me that my intended-posting had then been posted, but, that trick didn't work to get me anywhere this time (probably due to having tried adding the pic, along-with). _ And no other tricks (I thought-of to try-out), worked either !
__ Trying-out the Firefox-window's 'History' function gave me a moment's hope but, it seems to only provide refreshed pages.
I was hoping that others who have dealt with the issue, have discovered some other tricks which I may not already know of.
____ Thanks for your efforts to help-out anyhow, Bill !
Hopeful-Cheers,
-Bob

Re: Website requests
If you have a response that will take a long time, you could always type in a program such as Word. When you are done, you can copy and paste into the website editor. It is not the most elegant solution, but it works.

Re: Using WordPad to avoid text loss
" you could always type in a program such as Word. "
____ I have indeed used WordPad that way many times, whenever I expected to not get my effort finished within the same day,, it's just that I almost never really expect to take over an hour, it just happens, for one reason or another.
__ BTW, when dragging highlighted-text from WordPad to this w.site, Internet-Explorer causes the original-text to be MOVED -(thus leaving WordPad blank!), while Firefox lets the text be COPIED -(for repeated use).
Thanks,
-Bob

LOGing-In, with added Test-Box
____ For anyone else having troubles getting logged-in... if you're then faced with dealing with a decipher-box test, then please be tipped-off that it requires only 5 figures,
(at least that's how many I had to get successfully entered, in order to not have my entry rejected).
Hopeful-Cheers,

Our New 'Heads Up' Section
____ Now that I have found something somewhat worthy of being added to our new 'Heads Up' section, I find that it seems it must be only Jim himself who's currently allowed to post there !?
