Is there any reason why I can't drill and tap a hole in the bottom of the right case under the oil strainer and fit a sump plug drainer with a magnet, similar to a Pantah drain plug but shallower so it doesn't foul the gauze strainer?
Any structural negatives in that area?

____ Are you aware how expensive 450-cases are (if ya can find them) ?
__ I-MYSELF wouldn't try that, as I don't think the alloy-casing is thick enough in that area for a std.sized drain-plug's set of threads to be sufficiently tightened-down against,, (MAYBE a 8mm-plug [as I've seen on some Honda] would be safe to have somewhere underneath down-under there). _ I'd check-out the area near the oil-pump's inlet, for a possible location.
__ Hopefully somebody-else has already done such an oil-drain mod, and can tell you what NOT to do, (so as to help narrow-down your possibilities).

Graeme,
I would not presume to tell you what you could and couldn't do with your own bike but have you considered another way around your problem - oil filtration? Some pics attached (once I get the image size reduced)of a customers bike (Condor in a party frock); possible to delete the cooler element and insert a filtration element of your own choice? Not an ideal solution by any means but possibly worthy of your consideration.

Hello Howard, and Bob,

I don't particularly was to drill the cases as I do realise how hard it is to find good late model cases.

So, a question for Howard,
The stainless filters with the magnet enclosed and the finer gause,,,,,
Does the finer gause slow down the oil supply to the pump when the oil is cold?
Could it starve the pump until the oil warms up?
I use 25W50 here is Brisbane which seems to be looking after my engines (not allowing for big end pin hardness failure of course)
One of these filters places a magnet right where it could do the most good. Or it would seem to?

Regards
Graeme

ps Nice Condor.
I like that better than the ones with guns and lasers!

Hi Graeme,
I am not burdened under with testing apparatus of an engineering or scientific nature BUT I can assure you that in my own primitive test (invert filter then feed 1L 20/50 through in reverse flow) the time difference to drain between an original Ducati and these is minimal. Times are not replicable due to the Heath Robinson nature of the testing apparatus.
Do I have any doubts as to the efficiency? No :geek:
Is it preferable to the original? I think so; I have them in all my Ducati bikes.(but I would do of course as a measure of faith in the product!) :D
Can I prove it will improve your engine life/ big end failure rate? No.
Am I more confident that I'm doing the best I can to assist an elderly design in coping today? Undoubtedly. :)
