Thanks bevel bob, exactly what i've been thinking.thoroughly enamored of the bike for sure.i feel really lucky to have found it and actually owning one after lusting for an Italian single for years...great advice, i concur..wish my mum was around to give a ride to. i think she'd dig it too..best part was your comment

..i have a huge respect for this bike, and my other two vintage bikes, but ya gotta make them your own, tastefully and again w/ respectful consideration, i.e "better"..well, at least to you..i'll post separately, (don't mean to derail this thread..) on this superb low effort clutch perch/lever i got to replace the stocker...ahh the travesty!! i had a damaging bicycle crash, guy ran into me..another bicycle..anywhoo, wrist injury makin it really hard to ride..great product, plus can get matching brake side..
thanks dan on that link to bevel heaven..good option
yeah bob...big bucks..but i'm leaning this way..ebay prices, and or new VM round slideprices are lower, 90.00, but new slides, and jets probably would run 50 bux or so? guessing here..so Sudco w/ proven base settings, etc..seem like a good buy for me..
checked the ebay link, thanks, my feeling and research from a previous build are that the flat slides are a more rad, choppy carb more suited to race type situations..i went w/ round slide 38mm miks on my airhead, superb..
embarrasing, but i like the "plug n play" aspect @ sudco..its getting to be real springlike here and i can't wait to ride the ducati..
also might have to wait for that question as to the lights work , pretty excited to get it started and around the block, forgot to look!!! even if the brake light worked too??..also no battery on it yet, guess i'll do a basic 6 volt system w/ LED lights to start...didn't mention that the elect. system has no fuses or terminal blocks..pretty bare bones..that'll be the next noob adventure after i get it to reliably run and start..
thanks again all, ..
cheers

VHB 29 would work quite well too, got mine for 20 something on ebay.. you'll need to get the matching intake manifold though.... and SS1 velocity stack screw on perfectly!

I also own a 250 Narrow case, I have gone in the opposite direction, Tried to make the bike reliable but retain the raw ,uncompromising nature of the beast, I have to pick carefully what events i take it to,and avoid traffic at all times. About an hour of riding is the most my neck can take. Still love it.

____ The Mark-III Duke-model never came stock with any of those parts (according to any factory parts-book I've ever seen), as that model was intended to be kept light-weight. _ So all of it's electrical-loads were expected to be powered without the benefit of a battery. _ And at revs above idle, the stock-system was adequate enough (at least when it was new back in the mid-60s).

" guess i'll do a basic 6 volt system w/ LED lights to start "

____ It would be smart to simply add a small battery for powering at least the brake-light (& perhaps also a horn), and by adding a 3-buck rect.block, you could then keep the battery charged with the power that the ign.system ignores & WASTES.

Duke-Cheers,

you're makin me smile here..nicely said.
i love the look of clipons; i too, feel your pain..
i've been riding low superbike bars lately, company is Coerce, for their Hyper(!) Low Superbike bend..wide but super comfy. I got the last pair out of a company in Japan. Max?? something?
i put a spare pair of BMW R90S bars on the duc., loads better for this old guy..

good call. then of course would be a lot safer while roaring around as i sort it out. i guess that by having a real minimal system, as i redo i can build it to suit my needs.
thanks, loads of great info here, i know it must get tedious answering the same noobish questions, but greatly appreciated.

____ So I take-it that you do however have ign.spark ?
If so, what color is the wire that's connected to the ign.coil & points ?

yeah, bob..good ignition spark, got it started, and around the block a couple of times, previously, before disassembly.
the lead to the coil/points is the green..
