Smiths revcounter drive

Hi, does any have any knowledge of this type of Smiths revcounter drive? There is a chap in Japan who has fitted one to his 250 linked to a veglia tacho. However my Japanese is limited and I can’t find out where he sourced his. I’ve tried looking on the interweb but nothing so far.

That's the type of rev counter kit Vic Camp used to sell years ago.
It uses a 4:1 tacho head driven off the left hand side of the crankshaft with a corresponding 4:1 Smiths drive gearbox.
The various parts do come up for sale occasionally, but I haven't seen the full kit for sale for some time.
If you just want a tacho fitted, the 2:1 drive from the camshaft is an easier fit. That will still need a 4:1 instrument due to the camshaft being driven at half crankshaft speed.

I purchased this exact kit from Vic Camp many years ago 1969/70 ish for my 200 you got a driving dog for the left hand side of the crank, a drive gearbox mounting plate that screwed into the hole in the primary drive cover case where the hex bung normally fitted, a cable and a tachometer. I have seen various bits that would be parts of this kit on 'fleabay' now and again, the only parts specifically designed for the Ducati single were the driving dog and the drive gearbox mounting plate.......neither particularly hard to make. I actually sold one of the driving dogs myself a couple of years ago.

This is the chap from Japan… with the tacho drive! I’ll just have to keep a lookout. I have a drive off the top bevel, but was hoping to fit a gazer on there to check oil flow and colour etc.
if anyone has any parts I’d be grateful! I have a 4:1 tacho and cable just need the rest!

The drive coupling that screws onto the end of the crankshaft is currently for sale on e-bay UK.
Item no.377226499539.
The 4:1 drive gearboxes were used on many British bikes as an aftermarket fitting are often on sale at the same site.

These were a very common rev counter drive system on many 1960s Ducati single road bikes turned racers, Just one note of caution (God forgive you come off) but if you slide off the bike on the left side the rev counter drive is pretty much the first thing to 'hit' and has the unfortunate habit of smashing the primary drive casing.......don't ask me how I know
