Re: PistonSkirt Knurling (vs Teflon-buttons)

" Would work for normal riding? "

____ Yes Paul, it's an effective (but temporary) practice to make a slightly undersized (for it's mated cyl.bore) piston less likely to suffer from 'piston-slap' .
A fair way to get some added life out of a worn liner's bore & it's original-sized piston.
__ Another (better) way I'm aware of, is to instead install Teflon-peg/buttons (which requires drilling holes through the skirt, in the same areas).

Knurling! I'm old enough to have actually done that in the day. However, back then, labour was cheap and parts were expensive. It's the reverse now. I'd have to be pretty broke to consider knurling these days. It doesn't strengthen the piston by any means but it would be OKish for a low rev, stock set-up. Check your ring gaps carefully. If the bores are worn and your ring gaps are too wide...

____ I really can't agree with that... Back in the '60s, it was the high -(10-bucks per hour) LABOR-charges that had then caused me to become my own DUKE-mechanic !! _ And while Duc.single parts were not cheap back then, they're totally crazy now-days !!

In comparison to our wages, parts are cheaper now.
